Nine arrested for betting

The East Godavari police today busted a cricket betting racket and arrested nine persons during a raid at Rangayyanaidu street area here.

East Godavari Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni told reporters here sleuths of district crime branch and Law and Order branch squad, raided a building in Rangayyanaidu Street and nabbed nine people while they were allegedly taking bets for a one-day match.

The accused, during the interrogation confessed to their crime.

Police has seized a television set, one laptop, 22 mobile phones, a printer, set-top box and remote and Rs 37,600 cash.

A case was has been lodged against the nine persons at the 3 town police station under relevant sections of Prevention of Gambling Act.
