Maharashtra Government today clarified there was no provision in the budget on "measures to check influx of migrants from other states to Mumbai" and promised action against official concerned for the lapse.
The issue was raised by BP MLA Ashish Shelar in the Legislative Assembly, who cited a newspaper report saying the mention under the head "measures to check influx of migrants from other states to Mumbai" was made in the document of expenditure estimates of the general administration department (GAD).
Replying to this, Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said the mention of steps for stopping migration to Mumbai existed in the department's budgetary estimates since 2008, but the government has not made any such provision.
There is no provision for such matter. Action would be taken against officials responsible for this mention, he said.
