Now, car key to prevent teens from rash driving

A 'nagging' car key that annoys teenagers into driving safely has been developed by a US automaker.

The Ford MyKey allows car owners to customise different keys to configure different settings on the vehicle as it's turned on. That means parents can programme a key to give to their kids.

The key can be programmed to initiate features like completely disabling the audio system if seatbelts aren't used or sound alarms at 70km/h and 140km/h to highlight if the vehicle is going too fast, website 'Gizmodo' reported.

The key can be programmed to keep the seatbelt reminders on always, sounding an early fuel-low warning to save running out on fuel and restricting safety technologies like stability programmes from ever being turned off.

MyKey works in tandem with the Ford Sync system to make sure the drivers stay safe.

The MyKey system will be deployed in car models from 2014.
