One person was shot dead today after a group of miscreants opened fire during an altercation over relief material in the Minakha area of North 24 Parganas district.
"Water has accumulated in some parts of Minakha block due to the heavy rains. Some relief camps have been set up to relocate people from low lying areas. It was in one these camps that some miscreants shot Abu Bokkar Koyal (32) from close range over an argument on relief material," said district Additional Superintendent of Police, Bhaskar Mukherjee.
"Koyal died on the spot. We have launched an investigation and already arrested five persons in connection with the incident," Mukherjee added.

The local CPI(M) leadership, however, claimed Koyal to be their supporter and alleged armed goons aided by Trinamool Congress activists had targeted and murdered him.
