Orson Welles' 1949 classic 'The Third Man' is all set to be adapted into a musical for the Austrian stage.
The rights of the cult black and white flick, featuring Welles, have been acquired by the producers at Vereinigte Buehnen Wien (VBW) company and they plan to turn the crime drama into a German-language musical, reported Contactmusic.
'The Third Man: The Musical' will be developed, produced and premiered in Vienna in 2016 and the producers of the movie are well aware of the hard task of doing justice to classic work's musical adaptation.
"We don't have to make a copy of the film - we have to make a great work for a new audience. For sure, there will be many fans of 'The Third Man' who will come, but we will have to bring a new audience to the stage. That will be the great excitement, to make The Third Man live further, in another way," said Goebel.
