Top Chinese Foreign Ministry officials, diplomats and media personnel today attended a farewell dinner hosted by outgoing Indian envoy S Jaishankar.

Jaishankar, who played a key role in Indo-US Nuclear accord will be succeeded by Ashok K Kantha, currently Secretary East in the External Affairs Ministry.

Jaishankar would be the next Indian Ambassador to the US.

After taking over as envoy to Beijing in Aug 2009, Jaishankar dealt with several challenges in bilateral ties, including the issuance of stapled visas by China to residents of Jammu and Kashmir as well as incursions by Chinese troops into the Depsang valley in Ladakh in April this year.
