Oven ten lakh MT paddy arrives in Haryana's grain markets

During the current kharif season, more than 10.83 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy has so far arrived in the grain markets of Haryana.

About 6.64 lakh MT paddy had arrived in the 'mandis' in the corresponding period last year, a spokesman for the Food and Supplies Department said here today.

He said that of the total arrivals until yesterday, more than 10.39 lakh MT paddy was leviable and 44,030 MT of the crop was non-leviable.

He said that Kurukshetra district was leading in paddy arrivals at more than 3.16 lakh MT followed by 2.60 lakh MT paddy in Karnal and 1.78 lakh MT in Kaithal.
 

While government procurement agencies have purchased more than 9.71 lakh MT paddy, millers and dealers have purchased 1.12 lakh MT paddy.

The Food and Supplies Department has purchased more than 4.52 lakh MT of paddy, more than 3.61 lakh MT has been purchased by Hafed, 1.01 lakh MT has been purchased by the Haryana Agro-industries Corporation and 55,239 MT has been purchased by the Haryana Warehousing Corporation, he said.

The spokesman said that farmers have been advised to clean and dry their harvest properly before bringing them to the market so that there are no problems in storage due to high moisture content.
