The Congress today alleged that more than 50,000 farmers in Maharashtra were left out of the BJP-led government's ambitious crop loan waiver scheme because of faulty implementation.

Over 50,000 farmers didn't get benefit of the scheme despite being eligible, claimed state Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant here.

Further, of the 47, 46, 222 farmers for whom loan waiver has been sanctioned, a total of Rs 12,262 crore have been deposited in the accounts of only 31 lakh farmers so far, he said.

Of the 89 lakh farmers in the state whom the scheme was supposed to help, only 77 lakh could file online applications to avail the waiver, Sawant alleged.

The Congress will take to the streets if the scheme was not implemented speedily, he said.

The Maharashtra government, which announced a Rs 34,000 crore loan waiver scheme in June last year, had claimed that it was "biggest in history".
