Over Rs 10 crore of unaccounted cash seized, says collector

East Godavari District Collector and District Election Officer Neetu Prasad said here tonight that unaccounted cash worth more than Rs 10 crore was seized, after raids, ahead of tomorrow's election to three Lok Sabha and 19 assembly seats.

"So far (until today) Rs 10,95,00,00 crore (Rs 10.95 crore) cash and other materials have been seized from various people in the district after raids by various teams including police, excise and election officials as part of the election code," she said.

She said Rs 1,65,00,250 crore worth material kept for preparing of illicit liquor was destroyed by excise officials.

"We receive complaints from various parts of the district about illegal transportof money, liquor and material after which officials take action," she said.
 

All arrangements including deployment of police personnel is complete and all necessary steps have been taken to conduct peaceful polls in the district, she said.

She directed liquor shops in Yanam on the district border as well as within the district to close down for 48 hours from 6 pm on May 5, to 6 pm on May 7.

She also directed liqour shops to be closed from 6 am on May 16 until the counting process is completed.

Meanwhile, Kakinada Excise Superintendent K Balaramakrishna said in a statement here today that, "So far 395 people have been arrested in 851 cases and 4,351 litres of liquor has been seized in various parts of the district".
