Overnight rains bring down mercury in Delhi

It was a pleasant day in the national capital as overnight rains brought the mercury down to 26.2 degrees Celsius, eight notches below the season's average, but caused waterlogging which led to traffic snarls.

The Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered official for the city, gauged 77.8 mm of rains, in the 24 hours ending 8.30 AM.

It was the highest recorded rainfall in the month of September in the last eight years. On September 10 in 2009, the city had received 93.8 mm of rains, an MeT department official said.

Between 8.30 AM and 5.30 PM today, the city received 0.8 mm of rains.
 

Areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayangar observatories received 41.2 mm, 80.3 mm, 57.7 mm and 39.8 mm of rainfall respectively till 8.30 AM, the official said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year.

Humidity levels oscillated between 100 per cent and 90 per cent.

The MeT office has forecast overcast skies for tomorrow and the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 31 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively.

Yesterday, the maximum temperature settled at 27.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 26.5 degree Celsius.
