At least 22 terrorists were killed today when Pakistani Air Force jets targeted their hideouts in aerial strikes in country's restive North Waziristan region near Afghan border.

The militants' hideouts were pounded in Shawal tehsil in which 22 terrorists were killed, army said in a statement.

Six militant hideouts and other targets were also wiped out in the airstrikes, Dawn newspaper reported.

Military operation Zarb-i-Azb was launched by army in June last year following a militant attack on Karachi's international airport. The massive operation was launched to clear the area of militants which is still ongoing.

Pakistan has regularly pounded militant positions in the strongholds in Shawal and Dattakhel areas of North Waziristan which has been largely cleared of militants.

The army says over 3,000 militants have been killed in the operation so far.
