The US should reimburse Pakistan's expenses on the war on terror from the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) so that the country can improve its foreign exchange reserves, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said today.
Dar sought speedy disbursement of Pakistan's dues from the CSF during a meeting with US Ambassador Richard Olson in Islamabad, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.
The disbursements would help Pakistan improve its foreign exchange reserves, which dipped to a dangerous low today, he said.
Olson assured Dar that he would convey Pakistan's position to the US government. He said the US has a strong idea of the energy crisis in Pakistan and is willing to support the country in overcoming the problem.
The US reimburses Pakistan's expenditure on the war on terror from the CSF. Payments from the fund were held up by the US after bilateral relations hit a low in the recent past.
Dar had recently announced that he would bring down the value of the Pakistani rupee to around 98 rupees to the US dollar in the money market.
The rupee's value has eroded steadily in the money market and one dollar is currently worth 111 rupees.
