Former Thane Deputy Mayor Milind Patankar of Thane, who had been allegedly manhandled in December, resigned as the chief of BJP's city unit here today.
He had been elected as the party's city unit president in mid-2013.
Patankar had been allegedly attacked by an angry mob of Shiv Sena and BJP activists on December 23 last year after the defeat of Sena nominee Pappu Kadam in the elections to the Civic Transport Committee chairman.

Patankar was accused of engineering a split in BJP, due to which Kadam was defeated by one vote in the polls. Patankar later resigned from the post and reportedly went missing.
According to party sources, BJP Maharashtra unit chief Devendra Fadnavis today stayed the Thane Municipal Corporation's transport committee, following which Patankar resigned from the post.
