A constable was injured after a police team was attacked when they challenged four robbers who were trying to loot a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM at Kolaras town of the district, an official said today.

The robbers reached the ATM in a car registered in Delhi late last night and were trying to break into the cash dispensing machine when they were spotted by a patrolling police team, Kolaras Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Sujit Bhadoria said.

The police team challenged the robbers who attacked one of its members, constable Sunil Bansal, with an iron rod, leaving him injured, he said.

They escaped from the spot, about 30km from here, after snatching his rifle, he said.

On getting information about the incident, district Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Pandey reached the spot and a manhunt was launched for the miscreants who escaped towards Rajasthan in their car, the SDOP said.

Police later recovered the rifle from the Gudha Road area, he said.

The injured constable was referred to Gwalior for treatment where his condition is reported to be out of danger, the officer said.

The robbers were unable to decamp with cash as the police team spotted them in time and foiled their attempt, Pandey said.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC was filed against unidentified persons, the SP added.
