Police officer sent to jail in bribery case

A court in Hisar has sentenced an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Agroha police station to two years and six months' rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convicted officer.

Informing this today, a spokesman of Haryana Vigilance Bureau said the accused, Surender Singh, was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from complainant Ram Partap, a resident of Kirmara in district Hisar, for not registering a case against him.

A case was registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Bureau's police station at Hisar, he added.
