Union Minister Ananth Kumar and a number of other political leaders today paid homage to senior journalist Girish Nikam, who died here yesterday.

The body of the 59-year-old mediaperson was today brought to the premises of Rajya Sabha Television, where he had anchored the popular show "Big Picture" for a number of years.

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Congress leader B K Hariprasad, Prasar Bharati Chairman A Suryaprakash, a number of senior journalists and well wishes paid their respects to Nikam. Wreaths were placed on behalf of media organisations.

Yesterday Nikam had suffered a massive heart attack after he completed recording for his favourite show at the RS TV studios and was taken to the nearby RML Hospital where he breathed his last.

Girish's body is being taken by his brother Niranjan, also a journalist, to Bengaluru, where the last rites will be performed tomorrow.
