BJP in Puducherry today charged the territorial government with "letting down drought-hit farmers in Karaikal region without any relief measures."

"Chief Minister V Narayanasamy was championing the cause of farmers who had staged agitation in Delhi, but nothing had been done by the Congress government here to address the woes of drought-hit farmers in Karaikal," President of Puducherry unit of BJP, V Saminathan said in a release.

The Puducherry government has let down the farmers in Karaikal without any relief measures, he alleged.

He urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the budget to be presented in the next session of the Assembly contained various job-oriented programmes and development-centric schemes.

Saminathan also appealed to Lt Governor Kiran Bedi to conduct a survey into the number of families coming under 'below poverty line' category in the Union Territory as the present number of red coloured ration cards meant for poor families was more than the actual number of families eligible to get the same.
