Children of poor families should be provided education as part of collective responsibility, Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today said even as he distributed kits to needy students on the occasion of the International Day of Families.
"Today is International Day of Families and our country is known for its family culture, traditions and family spirit. Therefore, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that children of every poor family be provided education," the Punjab and Haryana Governor said here.
The International Day of Families was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993. It reflects the importance the international community attaches to families and provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families.

"Children are the assets and future of our nation. It is our responsibility to identify the poor and needy students and develop their potential through well-orchestrated child care programmes," Solanki said while presiding over a literacy campaign, 'Saksharta', launched by NGO Bharat Vikas Parishad.
He also gave Rs 5 lakh to the NGO for the welfare of needy students.
"If you want to create a healthy society than you have to pay back the society by extending all possible help for this literacy project," Solanki said.
