The Madras High Court today adjourned the hearing on the anticipatory bail petition filed by Premalatha, wife of DMDK leader Vijayakant, to April 18.

Apprehending arrest in connection with registration of a criminal case against her by Tiruppur police, she moved the court seeking anticipatory bail today.

The case was registered under various IPC sections including 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) on a complaint from state minister A S M Anandan alleging that Premalatha had, while addressing a public meeting in Tiruppur on April 1, made certain allegedly derogatory remarks against Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa.

Premalatha submitted that all the "allegations are false and politically motivated" and that the case was filed with a view to harassing and causing damage to her reputation.

She further submitted in the application that she was not involved in any such offences, as alleged in the complaint, and is innocent.

Justice K Kalyanasundaram, before whom the application came up, adjourned the hearing tillApril 18.
