The much-awaited training courses exclusively for fitters and electricians required for the textile industry, would commence tomorrow at the new Textiles Technical Training Institute (TTTI) jointly established by Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA) and PSG institutions at Nilambur here.
The institute would offer short, medium and long term programmes and to start with, it is offering three to five days technical training for the fitters.
Ten candidates will attend the inaugural course tomorrow, based on the request from a textile unit, SIMA sources said.

Short term course would be for a minimum of one week and depending on the need it would extend up to 10 days, while medium term would be 20 to 30 days and long term for one year to two year, likely to combine with textile and IT, they said.
The first four-day course for the spinning preparatory fitters commencing tomorrow, would cover all the machines, accessories and equipment and Lakshmi Machine Works here has donated the entire range of plant and machinery for the pilot mill, for the training purpose.
Meanwhile, SIMA Chairman T Rajkumar said the textile industry was facing acute shortage of labour and more so the technicians and textile projects particularly weaving and spinning have become highly capital intensive, necessitating, SIMA to set up the institute jointly with PSG to meet the urgent needs.
All the leading textile machinery, spares and accessories manufacturers and service providers have come forward to share their technical expertise and train the technicians to meet the needs of the individual mills and maintain the machinery properly, he said.
Faculty from PSG College of Technology and professionals from Lakshmi Machine Works Limited, VETAL, Lakshmi Card Clothing, Habasit Iakoka, Textech, Voltas, SKF and ATE would train the technicians, Rajkumar said.
