The Punjab Cabinet today paid tributes to Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, saying he excelled not only as a soldier but also as an advisor to the government.

The entire Cabinet, which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, stood in silence for a minute as a mark of respect to the hero of 1965 India-Pakistan war, who died in Delhi earlier this week at the age of 98.

The chief minister, while lauding the courage, grit and determination of the only Air Force officer to be promoted to five-star rank, said he would always cherish the memory when the former Chief of the Air Staff released one of his books on military history.

The recipient of several national and international awards, Arjan Singh excelled himself not just as an Indian Air Force (IAF) soldier but also as a diplomat, politician and advisor to the Indian government during his long and illustrious career, Amarinder said in an official release.
