Heat wave today swept Punjab and Haryana with mercury inching up sharply in many places of both the northern states.
Hisar in Haryana turned out to be the hottest place as it sizzled at 45.7 deg C, up by 4 notches above normal, Met department said here today.
Narnaul was the second hottest place in the state with maximum temperature of 45.3 deg C, up by three notches above normal.

Ambala, Bhiwani and Karnal also faced sweltering heat at 42.4 deg C, 44.2 deg C and 42 deg C respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar was the hottest place at 44.8 deg C, rising by 4 degres above normal. Ludhiana and Patiala had a maximum of 44.8 deg C and 44.6 deg C respectively.
UT Chandigarh, joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, faced hot weather at 42.6 deg C, up by 4 notches above normal.
Met department in its forecast said the days will be mainly dry.
