Punjab to set up industrial park for South Korean investors

Punjab government today offered to set up an industrial park here for South Korean investors for their projects.

The proposed park will be set up near international airport, Mohali.

It was announced by the state government during a meeting between South Korean delegation led Ambassador by Joon-Gyu Lee and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today, said an official release.

Badal during the meeting sought the cooperation of South Korea in the fields of education and skill training besides other varied fields of trade, commerce and information and technology.

The state government also aksed South Korean delegation to avail incentives being given for investing in the state, besides offering them power supply at fixed rate for ten year period, it said.
 

Addressing the members of delegation of South Korea here, the Chief Minister said Punjab is the most attractive investment destination, saying the state government desired to focus investment in manufacturing, infrastructure, automobile, IT and consumer electronics sectors.

He also enlisted the support of South Korea for development of smart cities in the state.

In his address, the Ambassador of South Korea Joon-Gyu Lee said Korea was particularly keen to forge business ties, joint ventures (JVs), partnerships, mergers and develop other inter-trade mechanisms like appointing dealerships and distributor channels with the industrialists from northern India, especially Chandigarh and Punjab region.

On the occasion, Vice President, Samsung Electronics, Kyoung Soo Kim evinced keen interest to invest in biometric technology and offered to explore electronic production unit in the state.

Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal, who was also present in the meeting said the state government had already set up first of its kind one stop clearance mechanism by establishing Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion to give approvals of 23 departments in 38 days which would come to 30 days within next two months.
