The Railways has advocated creation of a dedicated forensic lab for scientific analysis and ascertaining the causes of train mishaps.

In the light of repeated incidents of placing obstruction on tracks and attempts of cutting of tracks by miscreants, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has emphasised the need for effective coordination among various agencies involved in passenger safety and security.

In a video conference meeting with Director Generals or Commissioners of Police of all states and Union Territories, Prabhu advocated the setting up of a separate forensic lab.

He also asked for cooperation among various agencies sharing intelligence inputs to ensure safe train operations.

Prabhu suggested felicitation of security personnel for their outstanding job done to prevent sabotage.

During the video conference, Minister of State for Home Affiars Hansraj Gangaram Ahir was also present along with senior railway and RPF officials.

Ahir in his address shared his concern on recent criminal activities on Railways resulting in accidents and advised state police to be careful about the designs of anti-national elements.

He also asked the state police to provide full cooperation to Railways.

RPF DG SK Bhagat highlighted major incidents of sabotage during 2015 and 2016 and expressed concern over the sharp increase in such cases during 2017.

The first two months have witnessed close to 20 such cases this year.

Bhagat also mentioned that three cases have been entrusted to NIA for investigation and one has been referred to CBI.
