The Rajasthan High Court issued notices to Jai Narayan Vyas University, University Grants Commission, Department of Higher Education and some private respondents today in response to a petition filed against the a recently held recruitment process for Assistant Professor.

The petitioners, who challenged the recruitment, have also demanded the process to be quashed and carried out afresh in accordance with the UGC Regulations.

The writ petition has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire recruitment process conducted by the Jodhpur-based university.

Counsel of the petitioners, P P Choudhary and Sanjit Purohit, told the court that these selections were done in contradiction of the UGC norms through an ordinance.

They contended that the Constitution gives powers to the central government to make laws regarding standards of education in universities.

The bench comprising of Justices Govind Mathur and Banwarilal Sharma has questioned the university regarding its competence to pass an ordinance prescribing the qualification of lecturers, besides issuing notices to the respondents.

Prayer has also been made from the court to accept this writ petition as the Public Interest Litigation considering the wider education repercussions of the petition.
