Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today inaugurated the statewide 'Anganwadi Gunvatta Unnayan Abhiyan' here and called for collective efforts to fight malnutrition in the state.
"Eradication of malnutrition in the state is our collective social responsibility. People should participate in the government drive to ensure healthy and malnutrition-free future of the state," the Chief Minister said, after launching the campaign, initiated by the state's Women and Child Development (WCD) department, at Indoor Stadium, Budhapara here.
He lauded the efforts of Anganwadis in fighting malnutrition and said that with the active support of the WCD department, NGOs and social workers, malnutrition has come down by 17 per cent in the state in the last one decade.

In 2003, there were a total of 21,123 Anganwadi centres in the state, which have risen to about 50,000 now, he said.
Likewise, the number of beneficiaries of Anganwadi centres has also increased and it has crossed the mark of 25 lakh, he further said.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister felicitated members of women self-help groups and 'Suposhan Mitra', and sarpanchs for their achievements under the third phase of the 'Nava Jatan Yojana', a scheme aimed at eradicating malnutrition.
Singh also released a software developed for monitoring important department schemes, a mobile app called 'Vajan Mitra' developed for Anganwadi workers, and primary child education kit 'First Step'.
'Anganwadi Gunwatta Unnayan Abhiyan' would conclude on January 13.
