The State Administrative Council (SAC) headed by Governor N N Vohra yesterday directed the housing and urban development department to initiate the process of holding elections to the municipal bodies in consultation with the chief electoral officer of the state.
Welcoming the move, BJP leader, Varinderjit Singh said for effective development of the area, holding elections would certainly help as it strengthen democracy at the grass root level and provide administration at the doorstep of masses.
BJP is ready to go for local body elections at any time and it is in strong favour of holding elections at the earliest possible opportunity, Singh said in a statement issued from the party headquarters.
BJP state convenor of urban local body cell, Deepak Gupta, said the local body elections would also reinforce the ongoing effort to attain sustainable peace in the state as the expectations of local population will be fulfilled through local reinforcement in the administrative processes.
BJP has continuously worked for strong booth level structure which will ensure its win in every future elections, he added.
