The ruling Peoples Democratic Party today hailed the government's decision to regularise nearly 60,000 daily wagers and casual labourers working in various departments as an "unprecedented" administrative measure.
The move would bring relief to thousands of workers and their families, who were faced with uncertainty, PDP vice president Mohammad Sartaj Madni said here.
"Our govt will be regularising 60,000 daily wagers & casual labourers working in various departments in J&K to provide sustainable livelihoods to those who need it the most. Hard work & dedication must always be recognised & appreciated," Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted yesterday.

Madni said the decision was afulfilment of a major electoral promise made by Mufti. "PDP has a reason to draw satisfaction from this as thousands of families have been lent well-deserved support and thousands of youth have been relieved of perpetual stress," he added.
Madni said Chief Minister Mufti and her government had to undergoa cumbersome exercise to clear or override legal and financial hurdles to resolve the issue.
