Researcher killed in Chinese university's Chemistry lab blast

A research student was killed today in a chemical explosion at a chemistry lab in Tsinghua university here in China.

The blast occurred at the chemistry building, the university said in its official microblog.

Teachers and students in and near the building were evacuated, it said, adding that the student killed in the explosion was a postdoctoral researcher.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the Ho Tim building at Tsinghua University here early this morning.

A thick black smoke was seen billowing out of the three- storey building.

The fire has been doused and an investigation is under way, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
