Bowing to the demand of villagers, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials today exempted from toll residents of 60 villages coming under a 20 km radius of the newly opened Kaniyur Toll Plaza in the district.
As the villagers, particularly farmers, started protesting against collection of toll, NHAI today decided to exempt people from 60 villages located in a 20 km radius around the toll plaza, which become operational last night, police said quoting NHAI officials.
Tension prevailed near the toll plaza this morning, as activists of various political parties, farmers associations and local residents protested against the levy.
