To help identify and solve the various issues related to the Vimukat Jaatis (Denotified Tribes), the Punjab government today said it would soon appoint a retired Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court as the Chairman of Vimukat Jaati Commission.

A direction to this effect was given by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to the office of Advocate General during a meeting with a deputation of Punjab Pradesh Vimukat-Jaati Sangathan, an official spokesman said here.

Badal assured the deputation that the state government would consider their all legitimate demands sympathetically.

He also directed the SC/BC Welfare department to implement all the decisions, which had already been taken during earlier meetings with the organisation pertaining to the reservation in the government jobs, allotment of five marla plots and various benefits under other welfare schemes.

Badal said the SAD-BJP government has constituted Vimukat Jaatiyaan Bhalai Board for the first time in the state to ensure the over all development of the poor and backward communities.
