Tamil Nadu has collected total revenue of Rs 14,604.51 crore through commercial taxes in the first quarter of this fiscal, up 6.6 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
"During the financial year 2016-17 till June, Rs 14,604.51 crore have been collected as total income. During the same period of last year, the total income was Rs 13,698.55 crore," an official release said.
Commercial Taxes Minister K C Veeramani chaired a review meeting at the secretariat today and directed officials to increase revenue generated from commercial taxes in areas which registered poor performance.

A total of 86 per cent of payments were made through e-filing by traders.
The minister also asked officials to take action against those who have benefitted by providing fake input credit, the release added.
