A village in Sundarbans has been flooded when about 200-ft of its embankment was breached by river water at Sandeshkhali in North 24-Parganas district, officials said today.

"Around 300 families of Kalinagar village were shifted to a nearby school after the water of Betni river breached its embankment during high tide last night," Sub-Divisional Officer of Basirhat, Sukhen Sen, said.

Relief materials are being distributed among the affected people, he said adding that saline flood water damaged mud houses in the village and filled paddy fields, he said.

The embankment repair work has been started after the river water ebbed.
