A group of SDMC officials today called on Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and put forth the civic body's demand that roads wider than 60-ft be given back to the corporation from PWD.

South Delhi Mayor Khushi Ram, who met Jung along with other senior officials of the civic body also raised several other issues during the meet.

The Mayor put forth the demand of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) that roads wider than 60-ft be given back to the civic body from PWD (Public Works Department), the SDMC said in a statement.

The Mayor also said that SDMC should get grant and more powers for the development of unauthorised colonies, it said.

He further said that in year 2010 the High Court had directed the state government to provide alternate SLF (Secured Land Fill) sites to the then unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi. So DDA (Delhi Development Authority) should allot land for SLF sites as soon as possible, he said.

Chairman of Standing Committee Satish Upadhyay, who attended the meeting discussed about the due MRF (municipal reform fund).

A 70 per cent grant was given for education but after 2008-09 only 56 per cent is given. This grant should be increased for the better education system, he said in the statement.

Upadhyay added that UAM (Unit Area Method) was implemented in 2004 for the unified MCD. After its implementation revenue generated from property tax is decreasing every year and till November 2012, corporation has suffered a loss of Rs 1709 crore. And, therefore he appealed to Jung that to compensate for this loss, a grant should be given to the three corporations.

MCD was trifurcated in 2012 into North, South and East corporations, viz NDMC, SDMC and EDMC respectively.

Leader of the House Subhash Arya said that Rural Development Board should be disbanded because there was Rural Area Committee in the corporation.

The grant allotted for Rural Development Board should be given to the corporation for the development of rural areas under its jurisdiction, he said, adding that Slum Department should be also given back to the corporation.
