The government released Rs 288.4 crore for setting up textile parks across the country in the last three years, parliament was informed today.

"An amount of Rs 288.4 crore have been released for setting up of textile parks in the country during the last three years," Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

Replying to a separate question, he said the government is not considering to restore the export incentives under the focus market scheme given to cotton and cotton yarn exporters.

The textile exports constitute 12 per cent of the total shipments from India.

The minister further said the textile industry is not heading towards sickness due to fluctuation in the prices of cotton in the domestic market.

"The prices of lint cotton during the current season have been 13 per cent to 30 per cent lower than the prices of cotton from corresponding period in last year, thereby affecting the farmers," he added.

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) purchases cotton from the farmers only under the MSP operations.
