RSS men should guard borders instead of jawans: Cong leader

Press Trust of India  |  Lucknow

Taking exception to Defence Minister giving credit of the army's surgical strikes in PoK to teachings, the today said if that was the case, workers should be guarding the borders instead of the jawans.

"The Defence Minister has given credit of the surgical strikes to teachings instead of the army...If this army action was really an outcome of RSS teachings, then its activists should be deployed on the borders to guard the country instead of the jawans," observer of the Lucknow district unit of the party Husain Dalvi told reporters here.

The MP said it would be better if the RSS activists, "indulging in divisive activities" in the country, faced the "enemy".

Dalvi criticised the Defence Minister saying in spite of holding a "sensitive" post, he was making such "frivolous" statements.

Speaking at a programme in on Monday, Parrikar had appeared to have given credit for the decision to carry out surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to RSS teachings.

Dalvi was confident about his party's prospects in the upcoming Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh and said it would emerge as the "kingmaker" and no government will be formed without its "help".

The leader dropped a hint of an alliance with the Janata Dal (United) and Peace Party for the polls but did not elaborate further.

He claimed that the recently-concluded 'Kisan Yatra' of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had given a "new life" to the party and it had been strengthened further.
