Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leaders, along with the party's core committee members, today met and discussed about the successful and peaceful completion of 'Akhand Path' (recitation of hymns) in the state in the wake of sacrilege incidents.

The leaders including members of its Core Committee met at the residence of Punjab Chief Minister and party's chief patron Parkash Singh Badal here this evening.

In the nearly half-an-hour long meeting, chaired by Badal, discussed the party's programme for successful and peaceful completion of the observance of the series of Akahand Paths of the sacred Guru Granth Sahib in the wake of the most painful incidents of sacrilege of the divine scripture in the state in recent days, SAD General Secretary and spokesperson Harcharan Singh Bains said.

Badal had called upon party leaders, workers and other devout Sikhs to organise Akhand Paths throughout the state as a part of the "Pashchatap" (introspection and atonement) towards the great Guru.

Prominent among those who attended the meeting, apart from the CM and the Deputy CM, included Ranjit Singh Brahampura, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Avtar Singh, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Tota Singh, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, Prem Singh Chandumajra among others.

They appealed to the people of Punjab to continue to preserve the hard earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony.

"The best way to pay our obeisance to the great Gurus is to follow their message of peace, amity and universal brotherhood as contained in the holy Guru Granth Sahib, a party release said.
