Samajwadi Party today asked the Odisha government to slash the electricity tariff in the state on line of the newly elected Aravind Kejriwal government in Delhi.

"The state government should take immediate step for slashing of electricity tariff for the benefit of common consumers or else you have to face the wrath of the people in the coming days," Samajwadi Party Odisha unit president Rabi Behera said in a letter to Energy Minister P P Dash.

Stating that Delhi government slashed the electricity tariff by 50 per cent for 400 units, Behera said the national capital is a non-producing electricity state.

Though Odisha is a electricity producing state, it has not taken any step to reduce power tariff, Behera said adding, "It is an irony that that every year, Odisha increases power bill."

Behera also cautioned the BJD government to face the fate of Congress if it did not work for the interest of the electricity consumers.
