Union minister and Punjab BJP chief Vijay Sampla today called upon the party units of the border-lying areas to help the locals who are being shifted to safer places in the wake of the high alert sounded after the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes across the LoC.

Sampla instructed the party workers to ensure every possible help to the evacuated people so that they don't face food and shelter related problems.

"People in border villages are leaving their homes and property for their motherland. We should respect their sacrifice and serve them in this hour of need," he said.

State BJP secretary Vineet Joshi said an emergency meet has been called by Sampla on September 30 at Circuit House in Jalandhar.

"Current circumstances in border-lying areas will be discussed in the meet. The party chief will chair the meeting which will be attended by the core group and state functionaries," said Joshi.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also instructed its volunteers to help people in the border area in all possible ways.

The party has also launched a dedicated helpline number (+91 8437-791773) for the purpose.

State Convener of AAP Gurpreet Singh Waraich (Ghuggi) called upon the volunteers to "overwhelmingly contribute in the service of people of Punjab".

The AAP leaders also issued instructions to party volunteers to be ready with the first aid kits and form various groups and coordinate to reach people in need.

The volunteers were told to arrange food for people as well as cattle even as they were instruced to extend maximum cooperation to the soldiers on duty, a party spokesperson said.
