A Committee of Secretaries (CoS) is seized of the issue of banning old diesel vehicles in NCR while the road ministry has floated a concept note on the same.

The government is working on the remarks made by the Supreme Court on discontinuing the use of old diesel vehicles in the National Capital region (NCR), Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Mansukh L Mandavia said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

"The proposal to introduce Vehicle Fleet Modernisation Programme to enable the replacement of old vehicles is under consideration," he added.

This will ensure phasing out of older polluting vehicles and allow their replacement with fuel efficient and environment friendly vehicles, the minister said.

"A concept note was placed by the Ministry on Vehicle Fleet Modernisation Programme on the ministry's official website for information and comments from the stakeholders. The issue is being put up for consideration by a committee of secretaries (CoS)," Mandavia informed the House.
