Senior civic officer attacked by hawkers in Thane

A senior civic officer in adjoining Thane suffered serious injuries after he was attacked by a group of hawkers this evening, police said.

Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commissioner, was severely beaten up by hawkers who also tore his clothes, they said.

The incident took place when Malvi was supervising a drive launched by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) against illegal hawkers in Gaondevi area, the police said.

The civic officer suffered serious injuries in the attack and was admitted to the Thane Civil Hospital, they said.

The process of registering an offence against the attackers was on, the police added.
