The 30-share barometer opened marginally higher and hovered in a range of 17,212.36 and 17,125.88, before ending higher by 53.09 points, or 0.31 per cent, at 17,187.34.
The National Stock Exchange's 50-share Nifty index settled higher by 18.40 points, or 0.35 per cent, at 5,209.
Both the NSE and the BSE today conducted a special live trading session in the F&O segment from 11.15 am to 12.45 pm due to upgradation of the system.
All sectoral indices remained in positive zone and gained up to 1.32 per cent.
