Hundreds of brothers and sisters today took holy dip in the Yamuna here and offered prayers at the Yamraj Yamuna Temple as they celebrated 'Yam Dwitiya'.
"No untoward incident took place during the celebrations," District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar said.
According to the legend, brothers and sisters bathing together at Vishram Ghat here on the auspicious day get salvation.
Most of the pilgrims after taking a dip in the holy river paid obeisance to the principal deity at Yamraj Yamuna Temple.
The ritual of bathing started in the wee hours and continued till it got dark.
Some of the pilgrims, however, expressed unhappiness over the state of the river.
"We have taken dip in the holy river since we came from a distance, but the government should ensure that such a pious river is cleaned," said Ramesh, a pilgrim from Kanpur.
Meanwhile, chairperson of Mathura Nagar Palika Manisha Gupta said several women pilgrims lauded the separate makeshift change-room arrangement for them.
