Singapore Exchange appoints banker Loh Boon Chye as new CEO

Top banker Loh Boon Chye was today appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Exchange, to lead the revival of Southeast Asia's biggest bourse.

Loh, 51, will commence his appointment on July 14.

Welcoming the appointment, the Chairman of Singapore Exchange (SGX), Chew Choon Seng said, "We are pleased to welcome Boon Chye as the new CEO. He is very well regarded by everyone and respected as an accomplished leader and team manager. Boon Chye is no stranger to SGX and his knowledge and extensive experience in capital markets equip him well to take SGX forward."

Commenting on his new appointment, Loh said, "I am honoured to be given the mandate to steer SGX, and look forward to further building on a strong foundation."
 

"In a rapidly evolving financial landscape, SGX has to adapt to stay ahead and I look forward to working with the stellar team towards this goal," Loh added.

Loh is well known in financial circles, with a career spanning 26 years, beginning as an Investment Officer with the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 1989.

From December 2012 to early this year, Loh was with Bank of America - Merrill Lynch as Deputy President and Head of Global Markets for Asia-Pacific.

Loh was also a director on the Board of SGX from October 2003 to September 2012.

The SGX President, Muthukrishnan Ramaswami will be in charge of the exchange from 1st to 13th July 2015.
