Six injured in stampede during BSF recruitment test

At least six youths were injured in a stampede when a large number of candidates rushed to enter the BSF camp at Kalyani in Nadia district today to participate in a recruitment test, police sources said.

Thousands of youths had gathered to gain entry to the BSF camp on the NH 34 to participate in the physical test for the post of Constable, the sources said.

As soon as the gates were opened there was a mad rush among the candidates to gain entry. In the stampede at least six youths were injured, the sources said.

The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kalyani Chandrasekhar Bardhan said "a few persons were injured in the incident and we are looking into it."
 

The six injured youths were rushed to Haringhata Rural Hospital, where two of them were released after first aid, the sources said adding that the rest four - Prakash Mondal, Imram Mondal, Bapan Ghosh and Indrajit Modak were admitted.

Unofficial sources alleged that one candidate died in the stampede.

"It was around 6.30 AM, the gate of the BSF camp opened. The awaiting youths started a mad rush to get inside. A few fell down in the stampede. I also was injured from the rush," a victim Prakash Mondal said.
