Six inmates were injured in a fight between two groups at the district jail here today, a jail official said.

Following the clash, prisoners belonging to the two groups were put in separate barracks, jail superintendent P S Baderia said.

The trouble started when prisoners Bhura and Zakir, housed in barrack number 3, were heading towards another barrack.

Head constable Vijay asked them to stop and an altercation followed, Baderia said.

Another prisoner called Suresh tried to intervene, but Bhura and Zakir assaulted him, which led to other inmates coming to Suresh's aid, and a fight between the two groups.

Additional police force was called up to control the situation, Baderia said. The injured were being treated in jail hospital, he added.
