Six of family drown

drowned when the car in which they were travelling went out of control and fell into a canal near Chandok area here.

The family was returning to their village Gulalwali under Mandawali Police Station after paying obeisance at the Gurudwara Sant Sagar at Gaindi Khata, police said.

Senior officials reached the spot and started looking for the bodies after stopping the flow of water into the canal, they said, adding, till this morning only three bodies could be fished out.

The victims have been identified as Gurpreet Kaur (48), her son Zorawar Singh (8), daughter Ramandeep Kaur (28), her husband Gurvinder Singh (30) and her daughter Manjeet Kaur (17) and grandson Vippan (6).
