Slovakian Peter Hammer was arrested yesterday by local police on a tip-off by intelligence agencies that a satellite phone was activated in Adarsh Nagar locality on June 16, following which the police was able to trace the location of the phone in a hotel.
Hammer was arrested after he was found carrying the phone, police said, adding that he was however released and a penalty of Rs 2,000 was imposed on him.
The phone was seized, police sources said.
Use of satellite phone is banned in India and it amounts to punishment.
