Thousands of passengers were stranded as a technical snag in the signalling system disrupted the operation of a dozen of trains at the Ghaziabad railway station this morning.

The snag was reported at 9.20 AM, resulting in the halt of the Howrah Rajdhani, Bhubaneswar Rajdhani, Sealdah Rajdhani, New Delhi-Bareilly Intercity Express, Ambala-Delhi Express and more than six local passenger trains on the tracks, said Government Railway Police.

"Signalling system stopped working due to non-supply of power at 9.20 AM, following which trains passing through Ghaziabad stopped on railway tracks for 40 minutes.

"A technical team of Railway was immediately sent to the spot and train services normalised at 10 AM," said a senior official with Railway.

The problem however prompted passengers stranded at the platform to stage a protest.

Some of them also reportedly clashed with platform staff.
