Delhi High Court today asked the city government to soon sort out issues concerning deputing of police officers at the Women and Child Development Department (DWCD) to deal with safety and security of juvenile homes.
A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and R K Gauba also asked Delhi government to appoint within four weeks a nodal officer for coordination with Public Works Department (PWD) on maintenance of infrastructure at these observation homes.
"Tell the Commissioner of Police this is not done. You have to sort it (deputation of cops to DWCD) out as it will have larger implications," the court said and directed the government to appoint a PWD nodal officer within four weeks.

The bench issued the direction after senior advocate A Bhambani, appointed as amicus curiae in the matter, said till date nothing has been done regarding deputation of police officers to DWCD and appointment of PWD nodal officer.
He also informed the court that as per his discussion with some police officers, the terms of deputation were not attractive and suggested that the pay scale of the posts be increased by two grades to make it attractive.
Delhi government, meanwhile, sought more time to work out the modalities for appointing the nodal PWD officer and creating six new posts in DWCD to deal with safety and security at juvenile homes.
The court on December 15 last year had directed the city government to expedite the process of appointing a nodal officer to coordinate with PWD. It had also sought information about the steps it intended to take to create six new posts.
DWCD had decided to create six new posts, as its initial decision to appoint police personnel on deputation had not worked out since such deputation was to be voluntary and only one officer had volunteered, while six were needed.
